As Senior Advisor, Public Affairs and Media Relations, you will act as a strategic partner to the Head of Public Affairs and a trusted advisor to senior leaders. You will play a key role in shaping iAFG’s public positioning, strengthening executive visibility, and supporting high-impact corporate initiatives in a complex, regulated, and performance-driven environment.

What you will accomplish with us
As Senior Advisor, Public Affairs and Media Relations, you will be at the core of our public voice and reputation strategy. Your key responsibilities will include:
Strategic Positioning & Corporate Narrative
Contribute to the development and execution of iAFG’s public affairs strategy, aligned with corporate priorities, growth objectives, and reputation goals.
Translate business strategy, financial performance, and ESG commitments into clear, credible, and differentiated public narratives.
Ensure consistency between corporate positioning, executive messaging, and external communications across markets and platforms.
Media Relations & Influence
Lead public affairs and media relations activities across Canadian markets outside of Québec, in close coordination with Québec-based Public Affairs teams to ensure national alignment.
Build and maintain trusted relationships with top-tier journalists covering business, finance, insurance, wealth management, ESG, and public policy.
Identify, shape, and pitch proactive media opportunities that reinforce iAFG’s stature as a leading North American financial institution.
Executive Visibility & Thought Leadership
Support the positioning of executives and senior leaders as credible voices on industry fundamentals, innovation, performance, and sustainability.
Prepare leaders for high-stakes media engagements through briefings, key messages, and Q&A.
Secure and support speaking opportunities and thought leadership platforms (forums, conferences, industry associations).
Contribute to the development of a structured thought leadership program, including studies, white papers, and expert commentary.
Business & Strategic Support
Support major corporate initiatives, including strategic projects, acquisitions, and key announcements, in collaboration with Investor Relations, Marketing, and Government Affairs.
Contribute to strengthening iAFG’s credibility with the financial community and the broader business ecosystem.
Issues Management & Reputation Risk
Monitor emerging issues, public debates, and media trends with potential reputational impact.
Support the preparation and execution of crisis and issues management plans, including simulations and executive preparedness.
Exercise sound judgment in sensitive situations and provide strategic counsel to senior leaders.
Content Development & Governance
Draft and oversee high-quality content, including press releases, backgrounders, and executive materials.
Collaborate closely with internal communications partners to ensure alignment on messaging, tone, and timing.
Uphold public affairs standards, protocols, and best practices.
What could accelerate your success in this role
We are looking for someone who:
Has 8–10 years of experience in public affairs, media relations, corporate communications, or a related field;
Has proven experience advising senior executives in complex, high-visibility environments;
Demonstrates strong strategic judgment, business acumen, and execution excellence;
Possesses a solid understanding of financial services, insurance, capital markets, or other regulated industries;
Is recognized for exceptional writing and storytelling skills in English;
Demonstrates the ability to anticipate issues, manage reputational risk, and link communications to business outcomes;
Thrives in a collaborative environment and works effectively with Québec-based and cross-functional teams;
Brings a high level of discretion, maturity, and professional integrity.
French proficiency or strong comprehension is considered an asset.

The typical hiring range for this position is starting at 150,000 CAD per year; the base salary offered may vary depending on knowledge, skills, years of experience, and internal equity related to the role.
